Top Tips for Increasing your SEO Ranking

Did you know that 93% of online experiences begin with a search engine? Which means that when someone is searching for your product or service or looking for information relevant to you, you need to ensure you are within those top search results!

That’s where your SEO strategy comes into play. Businesses that are regularly focusing on improving their SEO will consistently rank higher than those that aren’t – therefore if it isn’t at the top of your priorities list the traffic to your website will suffer. Not to worry though, there are plenty of ways you can start to improve your SEO ranking; here are some examples.

Optimising for Search Engines

Produce High-Quality Content

It’s extremely important to regularly update your website with relevant content to improve your SEO ranking. Keep your content fresh, new and exciting to ensure visitors are staying on your site longer, the quality of your content is really going to affect how much time people spend with your website, and in turn that’s going to affect your SEO. Use highly informative and consistent content to keep your visitors interested.

Using Links

When posting on your website be sure to use a variety of different links to add some depth to your writing. Backing up your data by creating links to authoritative and trustworthy sources is a great way to climb the rankings – make sure you’re using relevant and recent resources to make your links effective! Remember to include internal links to redirect visitors to other areas of your site – this will help increase their dwell time!

Make your Content Scannable and Readable

It’s a given that people tend to skim read through content, so it’s really important that your work is scannable and readable. Break up your content with headings and sub-headings, presenting your audience with a solid wall of text isn’t going to inspire them to spend more time on your website.

Using Keywords

Keywords – we heard this all the time! Using keywords throughout your text is extremely effective on your SEO ranking. Make sure they fit naturally into sentences – searchable words and phrases your audience would use to find your services. Careful though – be sure not to overuse them! Keep your eye's peeled for a

Optimise for Mobile Devices

Make sure your site is optimised for mobile! Over 60% of Google searches come from mobile devices, so making sure your site is mobile-friendly should be a very high priority.

Mobile Internet Search Engine Use

Additionally, Google also recognises how well your website is optimised for mobile and will consider this when ranking you. Optimising for mobile shouldn’t be put off, it’ll completely obstruct your user experience having a detrimental effect on your ranking.

Blogging

Blogging is one of the easiest ways to generate leads to your website. The first point I mentioned was that fresh, relevant, and high-quality content is an important way of improving your SEO ranking and blogging is an amazing technique to do this! You could increase your daily website traffic drastically if you can establish a following of loyal readers, quality blog posts will give your visitors more reason to stay longer. Don’t forget other things I’ve mentioned such as optimising headers and image-tags can also be incorporated into your posts.

Social Media

We learnt the importance of an active social media presence in my previous blog post, but how can we include that information to increase our SEO rankings? Easily! By adding links to your social profiles throughout your website you are once more allowing more organic traffic to reach your website. Use social sharing icons on all your content and link live feeds from your social platforms to your site to build that ranking. Sharing links to your website on your social platforms gives your audience another route to your website when your information pops up on their timelines, it takes only a click for your links to be shared again. Encouraging social sharing should be a regular priority in your SEO strategy to continually see a rise in your organic traffic.

Formatting your Pages – Optimise, optimise, OPTIMISE

Format your page correctly, write engaging meta-descriptions and optimise your image titles and sizes. Your website should be clearly formatted, making it easy for the reader to digest the information presented to them.

Sites with too much going on, too many bold colours, advertisements and images can distract your audience and can give your site an untrustworthy appearance. Your meta-description should be descriptive, concise engaging and unique.

Summing Up...

SEO is always going to need to be an important part of driving traffic to your website and you’ll need to concentrate on your strategy to help rise to the top of the rankings. If you are new to SEO it’s never too late to start implementing!

I recommend starting small, try a few SEO tips at a time and monitor the results of your methods – you’ll begin to see what’s working and what isn’t, and you can adjust and maintain from there.
